On Juneteenth 2023, the Holmes Commission on Racial Equality in American Psychoanalysis released their final report. The Holmes Commission on Racial Equality (CO-REAP) was established within the American Psychoanalytic Association on recommendation of the Black Psychoanalysts Speak national organization. CO-REAP’s purpose is to identify and to find remedies for apparent and implicit manifestations of structural racism that may reside within American psychoanalysis. The Final Report is based on the study of American psychoanalytic institutes, training centers and societies within and across different organizational auspices. As encouraged by CO-REAP, this Reading Group will provide relational space to study, process, and discuss the Report’s findings and recommendations. The intention of these reading groups is to help our community develop a collective understanding of the implications of this Report as we commit to making psychoanalysis as diverse, equitable, inclusive, open, and vibrant as it can be.
Julian Ernst, MSW, LICSW will host this second group reading of the Report over Zoom, beginning with the Report Findings in the Executive Summary. Attendees will participate by reading sections of the report aloud and discussing responses to the text as a group, staying close to the experience of the text rather than action-based responses.
WHEN: Sunday, November 5, 2023 - 5-6:30 PM WHERE: Zoom COST: FREE Please RSVP by November 1.
