Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training Program (PPTP)

Enhance Your Understanding of the Theory and Practice of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

This two-year training sequence offers clinicians an opportunity to immerse themselves in the theory and practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.  Research confirms that treatment focused on the interaction between the therapist and the patient with a foundation in psychoanalytic theory and practice has enduring benefits. Following a structure of three classes per trimester, including a case conference, clinicians will learn to:

  • Identify one’s own emotional experience as a way to inform the direction of treatment
  • Listen for recurring themes and patterns in the patient’s conscious and unconscious narratives
  • Understand and identify how the past is alive in the present moment
  • Learn how to handle complex attachment and trauma related issues
  • Use oneself in authentic and empathic ways within the therapeutic relationship
  • Understand how the complexity of the therapeutic relationship leads to change

The PPTP is an excellent opportunity for professionals and graduate students within the fields of psychiatry, social work, psychology, marriage and family, and counseling to deepen and enrich their therapeutic knowledge and skills.
